Drew Smith

Mr. Drew Smith is the Head of Legal and Compliance at IHLAD, where he also serves as Board Secretary and Data Protection Officer. In his role, Drew oversees the legal and compliance functions, providing strategic guidance onlegal, regulatory, and governance matters. He is also responsible for data protection at IHLAD and participates as a member of the Research Ethics Committee, ensuring the institute's compliance with both local and international standards.

With a career spanning roles in the U.S. Department of Justice and the Department of Healthand Human Services, Drew brings extensive experience in legal affairs, governance, andcompliance. Before joining IHLAD, he advised senior leadership at New York University Abu Dhabi on risk, tax, and corporate governance issues. His background also includes working with Fortune 50 institutions and renewable energy clients in project finance and compliance.

Drew holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) and a Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Pennsylvania, as well as a Master of Laws (LLM) from New York University School of Law.
